B-Style Mobility Solutions is developing a dedicated KIA PV5 WAV conversion kit for professional converters entering the electric wheelchair accessible vehicle market. The solution is designed for companies that want to expand into zero-emission mobility with a scalable and engineering-driven system.

The conversion kit follows B-Style’s bolt-on philosophy and requires no welding to the base vehicle. This supports repeatable installation, protects the structural integrity of the platform, and fits the technical requirements of electric vehicle conversions.

With the introduction of the KIA PV5, converters gain access to a new electric platform for future WAV applications. B-Style translates this into a practical conversion solution focused on usability, compliance, and international scalability.

Why the KIA PV5 is a strong base for WAV conversions

The KIA PV5 is part of Kia’s PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) strategy and is designed as a modular electric platform. Unlike traditional vans, this vehicle is developed specifically for flexibility and commercial use cases.

For converters, this creates a strong foundation for wheelchair accessible vehicle conversions that require precision and consistency. The flat-floor architecture allows for a more controlled integration of conversion components.

Key platform advantages include:

  • Purpose-built electric architecture (E-GMP.S)
  • Flat floor design enabling structured integration
  • Multiple body configurations (Cargo, Crew, Passenger)
  • Designed for commercial and fleet applications
  • Modular platform for future scalability

The platform is aligned with professional mobility applications such as taxi, care transport, and urban mobility. This makes the PV5 a strategic base vehicle for converters transitioning to electric fleets.

For converters, this creates a future-proof base vehicle for electric wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) applications.

Key advantages of the PV5 platform:

  • Purpose-built electric architecture (E-GMP.S)
  • Flat floor design for flexible integration
  • Multiple body configurations (Cargo, Crew, Passenger)
  • OEM-developed modular ecosystem
  • Designed for commercial mobility use cases

This makes the PV5 a highly relevant platform for next-generation WAV conversions in zero-emission transport.

Technical overview of the KIA PV5 Platform

The KIA PV5 combines a fully electric drivetrain with a modular vehicle structure. This enables multiple configurations depending on the intended use case and market requirements.

The vehicle will be available with different battery options, allowing converters to balance range and performance. The largest battery variant is expected to reach approximately 400 km WLTP range.

  • Battery options: 43.3 / 51.5 / 71.2 kWh
  • Electric motor: 120 kW (163 hp)
  • Torque: 250 Nm
  • Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive

The PV5 supports both AC and DC charging, making it suitable for daily operations such as taxi and care transport. Fast charging capabilities support operational efficiency.

  • 11 kW AC charging
  • DC fast charging (10–80% in approx. 30 minutes)

These specifications make the PV5 a relevant platform for electric WAV conversions. Final specifications may change as Kia completes production development.

Engineering challenges of electric WAV conversions in the KIA PV5

Electric vehicle platforms require a different approach to wheelchair accessible vehicle conversions. The battery is integrated into the floor structure, which limits traditional floor-lowering methods.

Converters must work within strict structural constraints while maintaining safety and performance. This makes standard conversion techniques unsuitable for electric platforms.

Key challenges include weight management, electronic system compatibility, and compliance with homologation requirements. Each of these factors directly impacts the feasibility of the conversion.

As a result, EV conversions require a fully engineered, platform-specific solution.

Rear Entry vs. Side Entry

Kia has introduced a factory-developed WAV variant for the KIA PV5, including a side-entry configuration for specific markets. This OEM solution is designed as a standard vehicle option rather than a conversion platform. For professional WAV conversions in Europe, rear-entry systems form the required technical approach. This enables a lowered floor, better accessibility, and alignment with European homologation requirements. B-Style focuses on engineered rear-entry conversion systems that offer greater flexibility, higher quality integration, and suitability for scalable conversion operations.

B-Style KIA PV5 WAV conversion kit

B-Style is developing a dedicated KIA PV5 WAV conversion kit for the passenger version of the vehicle. The system is designed specifically for professional converters who require scalability and consistency.

The conversion kit follows a structured engineering approach focused on efficiency, integration quality, and compliance. This enables converters to standardise their processes across multiple vehicles.

Key Engineering Principles

The PV5 conversion kit is built around proven engineering principles that ensure reliability and ease of installation. These principles are applied across all B-Style systems.

  • Bolt-on installation (no welding required)
  • Preservation of original vehicle structure
  • OEM-level integration and finish
  • Compatibility with electric drivetrain architecture
  • Designed for EU Type Approval processes

Development Focus

The development focuses on key technical areas that influence usability and vehicle performance. These elements are critical in electric vehicle conversions.

  • Floor integration adapted to EV structure
  • Ramp geometry optimised for ease of use
  • Lightweight design to minimise range impact
  • Flexible interior architecture

Interior configurations

The KIA PV5 wheelchair accessible vehicle configurations currently under development focus on flexible electric WAV layout solutions. The WAV kit is being developed with modular interior configurations in mind, allowing for a combination of a wheelchair position with rear passengers, flexible foldable seating systems, and multi-passenger layouts that include wheelchair users.

In addition, the interior is designed to maintain flat floor usability when the wheelchair space is not in use, ensuring maximum flexibility for different operational scenarios.
